X5 got towed away yesterday!

THATS SOME FRAGANAGLE BULL! $790! Not sure if this is still the case and if it even applies in Canada but I was stopped some years ago and did not have my registration or insurance card on me. (Before some of yall get your panties in a bunch everything was current just not in the vehicle). The officer gave me a ticket for speeding, no insurance or registration. He told me that if everything was current just to take the ticket to the police station and they would dismiss the insurance and registration ticket. Went home, pulled out of my wallet and sure enough he ripped those two up. So if your current give it a shot.

On another note....some things are a given. If you are driving an X5 Im damn sure you can afford insurance so thats not even a question. I just wanted to throw my 2cents in. It seems a few people are a little tense!

In Canada you cannot renew your vehicle registration without proof of insurance. You would have to cancel your insurace after renewing your registration in order to have a valid registration and not have insurance.

I think everyone here agrees that driving without insurance is bad.

Trust me I would not drive around without insurance. I've seen people get fined $2,600 without any mercy for driving without insurance! I even told the cop he could call my broker and confirm that I had insurance. I had the broker's phone number in the insurance card holder. It was the registration he was more concerned about. Even though I had the new sticker on my plates, he wanted to see my updated registration papers. The old registration card is all I had in the vehicle.

I'm taking this one to court for sure. At the very least they'll reduce my fines and/or points on my license...

ok Good I take it back then, my recomendation, get a lawyor to accompany you, try and get the tickets cut down, the towing this is stupid but I don't how law in Canada works

Thanks for bringing up your problem, it's a good lesson to learn and alway keep right paper work in the car for future emergency. But on the other hand, little thing like this happens though.

Exactly! I didn't post this message so everyone can laugh at my mistake but rather learn from it. A silly thing like forgetting to keep your registration and insurance with you can cost a small fortune. Not to mention I missed several appointments and my whole afternoon was shot.

Nevertheless I have to say that some cops are out to prove something and show the power given to them by the state. They tend to forget they are in fact serving the community. This guy didn't have to be such a jerk, but I just bit my tongue and never said a word. He refused to follow me less than 2 minutes away from home to show him proof of registration & insurance. He said I should do it in my own time.

Oh well, you live and you learn...
