Anyone remapped their 184hp diesel engine

Has anyone DMS remapped their 184 hp diesel X5. If so whats the difference like performance/econmomy wise?

I have a chip on mine (not remapped the eprom) and it makes a massive difference. Remapping is similar other than you`d have to UN remap it when you took it to the garage unless you want to lose your warranty.

I believe there is one company that remaps the ECU and is undetchable to the service departments. Only way for them to find out is if they drive it or check that the ECU sticker has been opened...

On the 184bhp(really 194 bhp on the rollers) it is better suited to the powerbox.In the case of the TUNIT it will give you an additional measured on the rollers 51 bhp(245 bhp).Remaps on the earlier 3.0D see programmers reluctant to go above 227 bhp!
The later 218 bhp version has a stronger turbo and more efficient fuel injectors and is more suitable for a remap ,which will give you close to 300 bhp,with no problems!However,all x5 3.0Ds are limited to how much power you get out of them due to the simple fact that the INLET MANIFOLD is made of plastic and will not stand very high boost pressures,thus limiting power.

Go with the Tunit box as recommended by Adrian.
DaveP also has it on his facelift 3.0D and what a difference.

I have a tunit box and it does make a nice difference ! my friend has one on his pre face lift and gives him nearly the same performance as my face lifted X5 So I bought one too and are very happy with the results. one word of warning i was not that impressed straight away it took a while for the car gearbox to learn how to cope with the extra power no it is brilliant!

Very interesting feedback!Tunit tested the pre facelifted x5 with 245 bhp!Are you saying that your friend´s X5 was still slower than your 218 bhp X5?
Now that you also have the TUNIT,are you now a whole lot faster than his?

We did not race back to back so quite hard to say but I would purchase one ! My mate was pleased with the extra performance

Wrong !Who, me!Sorry ,just joking!
The only one who is wrong is Tunit!They road tested a pre-facelift X5 on the Rollers and got 194 std and +51 bhp with their Tunit box installed!We regularly see the 3.0D engine show higher output numbers than Bmw claims!We had a 330D-204 bhp standard that showed 220 on the Rollers without any mods!

Hope the following link will be useful for anyone wishing to upgrade the performance of their 3.0D.
Maybe ,one day Tunit will publish the correct power figures on their site for the X5 3.0D!After all,their product is even better than what they advertise! Cant say this about a lot of companies!

I find that hard to belive becasue dont car maker BHP figures are taken from the crank and not the wheels ? Then you would expect to loose 5-10% through the drive train.

As I said before I have bought one of these boxes and works for me and would be a lot cheaper for some one to get damm close to face lift performance!

What dont you believe?The +51BHP from the Tunit box!
Do you believe that all 3.0D engines that Bmw produce in Austria have EXACTLY the same BHP?Bmw admit a tolerance of + 5%!
I remember back in 1986 when I had an E-30 325i and 171 BHP bmw claim and when I took it to the Rollers at Turbo Technics-Northampton,they saw 180 BHP standard!In the same place,two years back ,I had my Capri 2.8V6 Ford claim 160 BHP and it only made 138 BHP on the rollers!
Car makers measure engine BHP on a Dyno before its put on a car.Its true to expect a loss through the drive train but its usually a lot more than 5-10%!A front wheel drive car may only loose 10% but a 4WD car may loose up to 30%.

Still,we both agree that Tunit box is a great upgrade for the Diesel.
