Tempted on Trading the X5

Well, I've had a lot of fun with the vehicle and owned it for about 3 years now, but the other day I stopped over at the Porsche Dealership and drove a very beautiful white Cayenne Turbo S. I definately was impressed with it to say the least. I've basically maxed out the potential for power on my 4.6 and still may be shy of power from the turbo S. I am thinking highly of the caynne turbo S or possibly the Ml63 amg. What are your guys' opinions on those two vehicles?

I can't comment on the AMG & "S" version, but I just shopped for a new car and chose the X5 3.0 over the base Cayenne and ML350. I definately preferred the ML over the Cayenne, but of course I preferred the X5 over both of them. Obviously I cannot comment much on performance since I'm sure the AMG & "S" versions are entirely different, but the ML just looks nicer than the Cayenne, especially the interior. The ML just feels more comfortable and more luxurious, and there are certain things about the design that I even liked more than the X5. One thing I disliked about both the Cayenne and ML is that neither offers a bluetooth phone system. But if that is not important to you, then I would definately lean towards to ML. I'm guessing that the Cayenne probably has slightly better performance, but the ML is probably the nicer vehicle overall.

I like the Cayenne S and Turbo S; in fact I pretty much like the entire Porsche line. They've pretty much done a great job of improving the breed. A buddy at work has an '05 S model - his interior is way nicer than my X5, but it also requires checking off big dollar options to get the good interior in the Cayenne. The S has plenty of scoot. I haven't driven a Turbo yet. Everytime I've been to the Porsche dealer with the intention on doing so, my attention gets diverted by other models...

However, on the outside, it's an ugly duckling. The rear end is rather bland looking with those big red tail lights. Why Porsche had to make those lights monochromatic is beyond me. The front end resembles a goldfish gasping for breath - especially the Turbo model. Hopefully there is a body kit that remedies the appearance issues.

One thing nice about the Cayenne - there is an aftermarket. You can build to suit your tastes probably even more so than BMW. The only problem is the Porsche aftermarket consists mostly of German tuners and is uber expensive.

Don't know much about the ML63 yet. What more can you get on it that already isn't included by AMG?

You seem like a guy who likes to tinker with his vehicles - if you've done your time with BMW, then get the Cayenne. If you're done tinkering, get the ML63. If your a Bimmerphile - get another Bimmer.
