I thought it was around 24-25 gallons. I can do about 500 miles per tank on my 3.0 all freeway. Otherwise I usually fill up at around 320 miles per tank.

I'm trying to decide if I should go for the 3.0 or 4.4 I guess the difference in mpg is about 1mpg between the two?

page 25 from my 2005 X5 manual reads:

Tank capacity:
approx. 24.6 gal./approx. 93 liters,
including reserve
6-cylinder engine: approx. 2.0 gal./
approx. 8 liters
8-cylinder engine: approx. 2.5 gal./
approx. 10 liters.

I get 22 mpg on my 4.8 on highway.
MPG is better on 4.4 as the V8 engine does not have to work harder to pull the truck.

Mileage is good on post 2003 models as they had changes with 2004 model facelift.

As you can see from Fueleconomy.gov comparo below 389 miles on full tank. And as i said 4.4 gives better mileage than 3.0. But as many here will say that highway miles on newer 4.4 are in 22-24 range.

Yea, I don't see a significant difference between the two, I'm pretty much leaning towards the 4.4 now.
