Do those +04 clear tail lights on Ebay fit prefacelift X5?

I saw i couples of OEM clear tail lights on ebay, I would buy it if it fit my 02 X5. Do you have any opinion on this?

Yes they will fit. Check the forums as to what you need to do in order for them to fit.

There's a set of instructions on the front page - article 19 under Lighting. Here's the link:
http://www.xoutpost.com/pdf/X5_Rear_Light_Upgrade.pdf

There's an additional light in the new rear tail lights for adaptive braking which is a feature only on the facelift X5's. Since your X5 is not equipped with this feature, there is an adapter to the wiring harness to light this extra bulb as a brake light, so you essentially will have 2 active brake light bulbs per side.

When comparing the facelift vs. non-facelift tail lights, there isn't much difference. The clear part of the lens is more clear than white and the red is a little bright red compared to the older clears.

I'm guessing that since your X5 is going into the shop, you're thinking about swapping out your yellow tail lamps for clears. If the money is coming out of your pocket vs. from an insurance claim, the additional cost of the facelift clears might not be worth the price compared to prefacelift clears.

Hope this "clears" things up.

Definetely upgrade to 04+ taillights. When i am driving on highway and see a X5 in front of me, I can tell just by looking at taillights if its a post or pre-facelifted X5. Pre-facelifted taillights have a textured finished which makes them less brighter.

Where could these adapters be purchased? I have swapped mine to clears, but now I have a "check tail lights" warning on the dash...

I did a search on the forum and found that the message is caused by bad contact with the socket. I took each one out and cleaned them up (most were already clean) and the back surface of the tail light where they make contact. Then, the message disappeared.

It will be nice to have the 2nd lights operational.

Ok, I've posted twice, back to troll status
