QUESTION - new steering wheel install

I'm getting my Sport Steering wheel installed tomorrow (I finally got me an airbag at a decent price) and the service manager said they would have to reprogram the computer for the new airbag. I have the '02 regular wheel with the square airbag.
I thought it would just be a "plug & play" connection with the new one.

Do they have to reprogram it for that to recognize the new one?

Thanks in advance for all who help me with this...........I appreciate it.

No programming required. This exact swap was done on Juan's X5 at the meet last fall in the Carolina's and it was a simple plug-n-play change.

I thought so too, but I wasn't 100% since it came from the service manager himself..........It went from less than 1 hour labor up to 2 after he told me that..........

I just want the airbag to work if I need it or I would do it myself.......when it comes to something that important, I wouldn't trust myself to do it right..........

Thanks UCrew.............appreciate it.
