Bluetooth

I've been thinking about putting Bluetooth into my '01 X5, but I seem to get confused on the whole thing. I noticed BMW put out a cheaper alternative to the module with the BTUM, but it seems that might only work with 2002 and up. I have the phone set up already in my X5, but I'm not sure what phone it's for. Is there any way to tell for sure? I just want to get Bluetooth into my X5 and I'm trying to see what my options are. Can anybody please help me and explain the deal with all this stuff. Thanks.

Best bet to check out Martin's website www.bimmernav.com
I retrofitted BMW Bluetooth with Martin's kit & it works great. The problem with the 2001 X5 is that the Phone TCU module uses a different interface than the 2002 on X5. Martin's kit includes a special adaptor cable made with BMW OEM parts to covert the 25-pin interface to fit the BMW bluetooth modules. Tell Martin that I sent ya. You can e-mail him for more details.

Thanks for the info. Does anybody know if the BTUM works with all the phone systems? I was just curious in case I go that route. Although I'll probably do the retrofit if ever able to get a snap in for the Razr. I've heard some different things about the BMW phone system. Is there more than one phone that can be used in the system, or just one particular one? And if it's only one particular phone, how do you know which system you have?

There are lots of phones...... my Blueberry 8700 works VERY well with all functions such as phone book etc, and my wife uses the RAZR in her 2003 X5 with the same results. We haven't bothered with a snap in adapter as we are generally not our cars long enough to be worth the hassle (and I kept leaving mine in the car) and use a cord charger from the cig lighter. If you want to know which phones work prior to buying them, go to phone forums such as www.expansys.com or www.howardsforums.com and check out the particular model and the postings......

Sorry, I didn't mean the Bluetooth setup. I was actually talking about the factory wired system that comes as an option. I currently have the wire and antenna in console, but I have no idea what phone is supposed to work with it. I seen places where they mention the BTUM will only work with certain factory setups.
