X5 vs X3 Engine...the same?
Question- is the engine in the X3 the same as the 3.0 engine in the X5?

Agree, but only if it is a 3.0 X3. The X3 came with other six cylinder engines as well (2.5 is still available in Canada, and it was available in the US until 2005, dropped for 2006 models)
