mn......
my '01 X5 3.0 is also not reliable. I know how it feels. You love the car but those random problems are the killers. IMO, if I were you and with plenty of $$$, I would get a '05 X5. They should be much more reliable. or maybe trade in for something else? CalvinX5 |

KEEP IT! or give it to me...
Honestly, though, it sounds like you have bad luck. I know it's not fun to have it in the shop all the time and it gets expensive, but you just need to weigh both sides.. Do you love it enough to not let troubles get you down, or are they too much? Personally, I'd keep it.. But do whatever's best for you.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I'm just so frustrated, I wanna drive the damn thing off a cliff. I think all the repairs add up to close to $4000 in the past 6 months, not to mention we just bought $500 worth of pads and rotors. TALK SOME SENSE INTO ME!

Normally I wouldn't tell anyone to get rid of their x, but there are a very few out there that are just incessantly buggy are best left for the next guy to deal with. It sounds like you might be the next guy in this case.
In my experience, I've had 2 x5's, the first 6 months of ownership will bring you to the dealership fairly often to work out some of the bugs, which isn't so bad when you're under warranty. But, after that time they've both been solid as a rock. Just a random problem once in a while. If your's is a 2001 your big problems should've been fixed by now. Maybe wait to see if this round of repairs does the trick. If not, I'd try to find a new one. Just my opinion. Quote:

I agree. Give it another month. If you are having more problems, sell it and call it a day.

I had a 2001 X5 and did not have any major issues. Seems like you are having a bad time. I think you should move on to post-2003 model X5. You will be happy with a newer model.

Again guys, wouldn't trade this forum for anything! Thanks!...I've calmed down a bit, but I realized about 45 minutes ago I made a really stupid mistake. I had begun to take off the door panel to inspect the situation inside, and had disconnected the cable thing off of the backside of the interior door handle. Well, stupid me shut the door without reconnecting the cable...so I've spent the past while trying to feel my way around to connect it back...NEVER BE THAT STUPID! Haha...
Anyways, while in angst about the X5, I've been tossing the idea around about a new E90. It is in no way the X, and doesn't have a V8, but it's a smaller car that I might be able to toss around a bit more. Thinking about a 330 6-speed in black with terra leather...definately sport. Again, it's not an X5, but the possibility is still there... Thanks everyone, -Zach

Right there with you...
Love the damn thing, but the repair costs have so totally turned me off I can't explain it.
The suggestion to go out and drop $55+K on a new one is beyond comprehension to me. If this vehicle cost this much to maintain at 50-60K, why would anyone believe that the newer ones are going to be any better? How big is the demand for 2001 X5's?
