2001 X5 4.4i Oil Plug

Hi All,

I am trying to change oil on my 2001 X5 4.4i but I can't seem to find the right size hex to remove the oil plug. I have tried a 5mm (too Small) and a 6mm (too big). I'm guessing I need a 5.5mm but where do you get that?

Hold the fort. What bolt are you trying to remove? There shouldn't be one that size to remove for this task.

The following link is a DIY for a 3.0i, but the basic procedure is the same for a 4.4i - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/e...w-x5-3-0i.html

Oh, and :xoutpost:

Jeff

its a 6mm inside hex or a 17mm bolt on the outside. chances are someone stripped the 6mm inside portion a bit so your 6mm doesn't fit very well. that was the case with mine. i ended using a standard 17mm socket to remove it.

i have an update for the oil change diy to include the M62 4.4 as well... just haven't had the time to write it up yet...

...
On mine both inside 6mm and outside 17mm were stripped. I had to use a bolt remover to take it out and replaced it with a new oil plug.
