EML, ABS, BRAKE (yellow), & DSC light all on!!

Okay, yesterday, driving down the freeway and then out of the blue, the EML (Drive-by-wire), ABS, BRAKE (yellow, not red), & DSC (the center "triangle with circular arrow") warning lights came on and the engine was in a "limp-home" mode. I am thinking, great, another $1K to spend fixing this X5.

I get to my destination and turn off the car and waited for everything to shut down (about 30 seconds or so) and then restarted the car and all the lights were gone and car was running fine.

This morning, I start the car and everything appears to be fine. I start driving to work and not 1/2 mile goes by, the same lights all come on....

I get to my first stop sign and the X5 stalls!!:eek:

Put the car in neutral and restart the car and it starts up, but it is barely staying lit.....this time, SERVICE ENGINE SOON light comes on as well as well as all the other lights. The only way I can keep the X5 from stalling is to shift from "N" to "D" and keep on moving. I finally get to my parking space at work and of course as soon as I stop, the engine stalls.

I try restarting the car after waiting for 30 seconds or so and it will start but stalls right away.

Pop the hood open to look for any obvious vacuum leaks, etc. Lo & behold, the air intake hose after the air mass meter was disconnected. The engine was getting extra air that wasn't being measured by the air mass meter!!

Right away, I figured out that was the cause of the symptoms. At first I thought the air intake hose had ripped, but really it was disconnected and luckily the rubber gasket was still there. I reconnect the hose and all is well!

Now I have to wait for the SES light to reset itself.

I was just glad that it was something simple like that and not an electronic problem. If it was the tranny (which I knew it wasn't), at least I have 2 year/unlimited miles warranty on that sucker!

Man oh man, Charles, you've sure had your hands full recently! Glad it was something very minor.

Glad to hear it was a simple and free fix.

That's just wacky. Why would the ABS and brake warning lights come on? I didn't think the brake system would be tied in at all to the engine management system. Maybe it's a cascading fault from the DSC system which ties in to both engine and brakes.
