Creaking noise in steering wheel

My steering wheel started making a creaking noise when it tilts up and down. Any fix or does it just happen over time?

Thanks Ryan. ... you'd think over time would mean more than a year and a half though

Common problem since the very beginning of the E53, I believe the dealer has a fix..there's a TSB.

I thought it was from plastics getting old, so I used Gummyflesh, a product that BMW sells for their cabrios softop and wich I used with great success in some of my previous cabs, but it didn´t work on the X, it still make some noise .

I got that noise a few years back, the dealer can fix it. I never was told what it was, but 3 years later and it's not making any noise.

Hi L - I had my 2004 X5's squeaky wheel "greased" at the dealership last month. Problem solved. They actually used a dry graphite lube to lube it up. Works like a charm!
