Excellent experience -- I took delivery of an X5 there too... You will be amazed at what the X5 can do on the track. The driving course will give you tremendous confidence in the vehicle. If you can swing it, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina when you leave. I'm not sure where you are driving back to (city) -- but it is worth the detour!

Hey everyone.
I got back yesterday but have been busy. I will try to post pictures of the trip tomorrow if i have time. Let me just start by saying that the servotronic steering is awesome. I love it compared to my 2004 without it. The best $400 option i have ever gotten. Well i picked it up monday and drove back tuesday night. 800 miles in a little over 10 hours not bad. By the way i got it up to 120mph a few times but never put it over 4500rpm. Is that ok since it was not broken in yet. I was cruising at about 100mph for a good 2 hours in virginia following this range rover from Ny. I figured he would get pinched before me so i just followed him about 20 car lengths behind. Great ride i really love this thing. and im very happy i got one before they stopped making it.

As far as the driving school they give you it was awesome. I will be picking up every new bimmer i get from now on at the performance center. Before we got started our instructor took us out in a e46 m3 comp pkg for 3 allout hot laps. Damn that was an experince. This guy was nuts. I loved it.
Then we moved on the The X5. We started on the paved track. Did some panic stopping and turning exercises in the wet. Then we moved onto a slolam course. and damn i didnt realize the X5 could handle like this. You can get this thing right at the limit with no worries. I have new found confidence in my X5 handling abilities. Then we went to the wet shid pad and he was showing us about under and oversteer and how to correct for it and also how to get out of a spin. When we were done with that the instructor said i wanna show you guys something the X5 can do that no other suv can do with out landing on its roof or side. He gets in puts it in reverse floors it up to about 45mph cuts the wheel spins it around in a 180 and throughs it in drive and keeps going. then on his way back he throws up the emergency brake does a full 360 straitens it out and keeps going strait. Now i dont give a shit what anyone says. No other suv on this planet can do that except maybe a cayenne without flipping itself over on the roof. I seriously thought it was gonna flip and was shocked to see he didnt. This thing truely is amazing.
Anyway then it was on to our offroad course. and however says the X5 cant go offroad has no idea what the are talking about. We went through 24 inches of water about 8 inches of just plain mud, went up a hill with the pass side of the car onrollers with zero traction with no problem. Went up and across extremely steep grades on rough terrain. drove the X5 with one side on a 3ft pile of dirt and the other side on the ground literally about to tip over with no problem. Got it on 2 wheels the diagnal wheels completly off the ground. This x5 is amazing and i just cant wait to get an E70 in 2 years so i can go down there again.
I will post more later. I gotta go back to work

Sounds like you had a blast! I am convinced I will pick up my next BMW - which ever one it may be - in SC

Don't get too busy for pics!

BTW - I find it scary that YOU say the instructor was nuts.

/why would you find that scary. Are you trying to say im nuts or something. Listen my therapists said i wasnt crazy and that im normal and everyone else is messed up. And i believe. him. He also said that right before he asked me for a check for pmt. That was weird. Na just kidding. I admit i do some stupid things sometimes but its all for fun

Sounds like you had a great experience. I wish the SC plant wasn't so far away from me otherwise I would do the same on our next BMW.
