Closing Tailgate Question
Is this how the system works? Once oped the Tailgate cannot be closed unless the Liftgate is closed? The owners manual does not give specifics on closing the tailgate. (Like a thing like that should be necessary!!) Man, I think the last page of the owners manual should say: And Now....For The Rest Of Your Questions: xoutpost.com

The tailgate (one at bottom) should lock independent of liftgate(top one). And you can unlock by pressing on the little rubber area on top. The tailgate locks at both ends. Sometimes when it does not lock i close again a little harder and the both ends latch.

OK Lets clarify this. The liftgate (The one on the bottom) will lock itself when raised into place. The top (Tailgate) with the window DOES NOT LOCK INTO PLACE unless the liftgate in locked into place. I hauled some closet doors and there was no place to tie the liftgate off to keep it from bouncing open and closed with the liftgate in the down position. I will fugure out something soon.

I think some of the confusion here is that the words tailgate and liftgate are swapped around.
A tailgate folds down to open. It is on the bottom. You sit on it at a tailgate party. Pickup trucks have tailgates (I never heard of a pickup truck with a liftgate). The liftgate lifts up to open. It is on the top. It is similar to a hatchback (horrors, and apologies to the faithful). You appear to be saying that the top part (liftgate) doesn't latch unless the bottom part (tailgate) is folded up first. That is entirely normal, and is the way it is designed. Jeff

My tailgate (bottom) does not lock into place when it is opened and then closed. After I close the liftgate (top) both lock into place. I guess it's off to the dealer ship for a lil repair!

Welcome to the Ultimate Driving Machine. (Do you see the word "reliability" in that moniker?) Latches? We don't need no stinking latches!
I fixed mine with electrical tape and felt pads. Works great. They should put that tip in the owner's manual.

The latch will not catch even if closed hard. When I close the tailgate then the liftgate they both stay closed. When I then open the liftgate the tailgate is secure and I use the push down release to open it.
Not the biggest problem being that the system stays closed when the liftgate is closed. Odd that the latch doesn't work for the tailgate alone but when the liftgate is closed the latch for the tailgate operates.
