The "service engine" may came up if you filled her up with the motor running. A simple OBDII diag dongle can clear it.

Try this: http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/e...ts-bmw-x5.html You might also want to change the oil and filter.

Skip the above article, it refers to the service interval lights (when to do an oil change) and not the service engine soon light (which is a fault indicator).

Using regular gas by itself is not a cause, unless it is really bad, less than 87. Using dirty gas can be a cause.

Make sure the gas cap is tight, a loose gas cap is the most common cause of the SES light. If it doesn't go away by itself in a day or so, take it to the dealer. It can often be a sensor, or something similar, and it is difficult to diagnose without the code reader.

OBD stands for On Board Diagnostics .. the II is because its the 2nd version.

ITs a port on the driver side for Service diagnostics if you had the tool to insert there, or the adapter to a notebook it would specify the error and a lot of other data.

Do what JCL said first, remove gas cap and replace it and tighten properly and check if the message goes out.

Potentially, but not just because the light is on. It is an early warning system, and usually indicates a problem with the emissions control system. I would take it in to the dealer to find out, but you aren't hurting it driving it in the mean time. If something goes more seriously wrong you will get another (different) warning light, red instead of amber.

Diagnostics and found out EVAP code, which mean gas cap problem as you all suggested. may friend has the device clear the code for now.
I hope this will clear for now unless the gas boy screw up again.
I hope I'm right on this. I still take feedback......
