Question about PDC behavior

When I put my X5 in reverse the PDC comes on, as expected. However, after driving to work and pulling into my parking space, shouldn't the PDC automatically come on to guide me as I slowly park in my space? I shouldn't have to manually turn it on, should I???

Reverse gear triggers the PDC on; otherwise its manual. The car does not know if you are driving slow in traffic jam or parking.

If I pull in close to a wall or vehicle the front PDC starts chirping without a prompt.

it should only do that if you just took the X out of reverse. I beleive it stays on for a minute or so before it turns it's self off.

If it was engaged by putting the X into Reverse, it turns off immediately when put into Drive. If engaged manually, it turns off after 160 ft of driving or speeds above 20 mph (whichever is first).

If I put the X into reverse and the back into drive it will stay on till it reaches 10 mph I think

You're right. For my 2005, although it states on Page 93 of the manual that it should turn off when shifting out of Reverse:

http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/BM...20-%202005.pdf

It actually takes speed and/or distance to turn off...same as when you manually activate. Regardless, it does turn off.

I agree with all posts about reverse being the trigger, then forward speed/distance turning it off.

You can manually turn the PDC on when moving forward into a parking spot, once you've slowed to less than about 10 mph.
