X5 Reputation Is Beginning To Haunt Me

I Have had my car less than a month and last night after a round of golf i rolled down all of my windows and heard a loud crash. My left rear window either fell off the track or needs a new regulator. My car is already at BMW and im not too happy

There are a coupe of known weak spots with the X5, and the window regulator is one of them. Another is the Final Stage Resistor. Fortunately the issues are more of an annoyance then something to dump the vehicle over, in my opinion. If you're still in warranty then you are covered. If you are out of warranty and want to save a few bucks, it's not a difficult DIY repair job. See http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=75 for details.

while your X is in for service, make sure you have them reprogram the alarm so that it only get disarmed with the remote, and not with opening the door via the lock. I just learned from a break in that if a thief breaks the drivers door lock, the alarm will not activate, it's that way by factory default.

if the window just falls down, it needs only the regulator not the motor as well.....right???

99% chance that it's only the regulator, not the motor

hmm, i rolled my windows up today and heard a loud crack. I thought that maybe I rolled something up in the window. It turns out that the rear window makes a crack noise everytime the window starts to go up. Oh well. I guess I will just have to wait until it stops working. I am under warranty, so I am not too worried.

It's not something particular with the X5. The window regulator and final stage resistor are also a common problem on the 3-Series. Don't feel too bad!
