Do I have to use the OEM receiver for the OEM Hitch?

I just paid $460 for the hitch, does anyone know if I have to use the OEM $50 receiver or can I just purchase any ball and receiver at a place like u-haul ??

I purchased the OEM ball and tongue for under $40 with 25% off. When you have spent $460 on hitch, why cut corners on ball and tongue.

I purchased a Reese tongue with 5-3/8" drop ($29.99) and a Reese 2" ball ($7.99) from Pep-Boys for under $40.00.

Because of the height of the rear end of the X, the 5-3/8" drop makes a trailer with 15" tires very level.

no, you don't need to use the oem rebranded version of draw-tite's econo hitch package... you can use anything that is rated properly for what you are towing...

ie: get the ball and tongue that has the capacity for at least 6000 lbs (or greater in my case). also, make sure you the ball is the correct size for your trailer... i use the Equal-I-Zer load distributed anti-sway hitch system with 10,000 lb 2 5/16" ball and 10,000 lb sway arms

For what its worth your terminology is in error. The "RECEIVER" is the female part of the hitch attached to the vehicle. The "DRAWBAR", on which the "BALL" is mounted, is inserted into the receiver and held there by the "PIN".
