4.4i Mod#1 - Exhaust - Thoughts?

As of now, my X5 4.4i is still stock after a year of ownership. My future mod list for my X5 4.4i is primarily limited to performance mods. If I get around to any body mods, it will be last on the list.

The first thing I want to do is exhaust. Researching the crossover X-pipe led me to think about fabricating a complete exhaust system meaning replacing everything from the resonators back to the tail pipes.

Has anyone fitted Magnaflow or Flowmaster mufflers to an X5? My muffler guy says a pair of Flowmasters or Magnaflows will run me about $700-$800 in parts and labor; a couple of hundred bucks cheaper than Dinan, Remus, Boat, or Supersprint.

Anybody have any thoughts? I'm in California, so I need to consider about emission requirements. So long as I retain the stock cats and replace everything behind it, am I good to go?

Regards, Mike

Bad idea? Should I stick with the tried and true setup (Remus, Dinan, etc.)?

Regards, Mike

I removed my resonator and replaced with a straight pipe and love the sound. I was looking to replace the mufflers but don't want to lose the 4.8 tips and also couldn't find a muffler to fit the stock location.

I've heard Drex's Eisenhaus exhaust. It sounds AMAZING. Remove resonators, go straight pipe, get the Eisenhaus exhaust. My .02.

How far did you get with your exhaust mods?

I just left California Muffler and Tire shop at 13500 Inglewood. I replaced my resonator, two mufflers, and oval polished tips. I want to give it a week break in period before I have an opinion. I was pleasantly surprised with lower than expected noise level.

Will post pics and final thoughts in a week...

I think if price wasn't an issue, a lot of folks would get Dinan. But there are some other very good systems that are a lot cheaper. I personally like the Supersprint; the sound is amazing.

Yeah! I love supersprints as well, nice deep growl but not too intrusive...
