Changes to X5 for 2006

In Car magazine, June 2005, page 19.....

"X5 - The big 4x4 grows next year to accomodate up to seven seats.
It also gains iDrive, an electronic parking brake, and a column mounted gear shift"

X6 due in 2008.
V3 due in 2009 (People carrier)
V5 due in 2008 (R class rival)

Whadda ya all think?

As I still don't have a build date,
my order has been in since April 1st,
I don't want to end up with a vehicle
where I change gears with an indicator stalk,
like the new Merc.

I want a darned gear lever,
simple, and located where God intended it to be !!!!!!

This will be the demise of what the X5 was intended to be.

It's not good. It'll handle like a freighter with 7 seats.. It's not a Suburban! BMWs should be based on the drive. A column mounted shifter? NO!

I think the mag is guessing and riding the latest rumour waves...
'08 & '09 "models"?! WTFKs or Cares?!
But, 3rd row and the other bs, if it comes to fruition, does not make me anxious to toss my '01;
I smell an X3 when/if I do toss my current X5.

The '07 X5 is longer, wider, taller, heavier, seats seven, and is f'ugly. Check out Autoweek.com. In Autoweek's "Spy Shots" under "More Spy Shots" there's a photo of a staggeringly ugly '07 X5. I just hope there's a ton of camouflage on the X5 in that photo, and that BMW is just trying to fake us into thinking Bangle has gone bananas.

The following link may work:

The more I keep reading the rumors and news bits on the next gen X5, the more inclined I am to buy out mine at the end of the lease.

It just works right

Great another Crown Victoria derivative - the column-mounted shifter. Plus the god-awful iDrive...

Now the American carmakers are really offering cool products in light of this. Similar cars with BUTTONS, not iDrive, and a proper stick for tens of thousands less.

What is this column-mounted shifting thing? Is BMW tailoring to grannies now? The E65's shifter looks odd enough, we don't need more of those.
