PDC question

Hello, I'm new to the board and I had a quick question. I bought a replacement cover and support for the left rear PDC sensor. I tried to install these myself, but could not get the support and cover to lock into place. I read that the covers were rather delicate, so I didn't want to try and hulk it into place. Has anyone replaced one of these without taking the bumber off?
This is a great site for information.
Thanks.....Jeff

I've never tried to change my PDC sensors from the outside, but to be honest it's not that difficult to remove the back bumper. 2 screws and 2 bolts hold it in place. See http://www.xoutpost.com/showarticle-91.html for an idea of how to remove it.

It's helpful to have 2 people doing this, as it is quite bulky.

Does anyone knwo if it possible to do the PDC sensors from the outside??

When I bought my X5 the rear center two were missing. Kind of pissed me off when I found out these lil suckers cost $100 each from the dealer!! Well low and behold when doing some cleaning of the X5 I found "something" in the glove compartment. Hummm... yup, turned out to be one of the PDC sensors!! Cool, now only one to buy!!

Today while I was doing the rear wiper mod I decided to mount my sensor that I bought the mounts for. While I was doing that I tried to find the wires for the other sensor.... and...... the other sensor is hanging there on the inside of the bumper!!! Score!!!

Now I just have to mount them.

If anyone knows if you can mount them from the outside, great. If not I will tkae El Jeffe's advice and the bumper cover comes off tomorrow!!!

yes u can put the center ones in from the out side its a bit tricky but it can be done as for the coner ones it would be easier just to remove the bumper.

It is only the center ones that I need to do. How is it done? Easier just to drop the bumper?

the problem with my PDC is that as far as lookin at each one from the outside all of them seem in 100% fine condition. But whenever i reverse it just makes a constant beep with the PDC button blinking and then the noise turns off (fail-safe mode)

so im wonderin what could be the problem i really dont feel liek bringing into the dealer and have them take off my front bumper and having them take out my xenon fogs and my custom horn... i hate when dealers do stuff to ur car and realize there is aftermarket stuff, it makes me feel as if its not their OEM part so they are not liable for it, and they could give me shit for it.

imola,
turn on your pdc first, while parked of course, have the pdc light blinking and go outside put your ear right next to the sensor, check each one of them, if the sensors work, you'll still hear a little clicking sound very faint sound, that'd be first step. if you hear sound from all of them, then it might be the wiring behind dash underneath steering wheel, maybe something pinched in there when you had any wiring work done, i've had same thing happen awhile ago
