Exclamation Green Fluid Leaking??

Hello All,

My engine is leaking some green fluid on the garage floor, leaves about a 2 inch round puddle overnight. Spoke with my service advisor and have an appointment Friday, he didn't recall what off hand is green in the engine. He says the Coolant should not be that color. I can see a hose leaking near the front drivers side of the car... haven't gotten any check coolant level message yet. Think I can make it until friday? How much fluid left in the tank once I get the message?

Thanks,
-Josh

Sounds like coolant to me. Did you buy the vehicle new? If so, have you ever had the coolant flushed? If you get a read out that says your coolant level is low, then you should probably fill it right away.

Bought the vehicle used, but it is still under the 50k warranty so BMW will cover. Just tryin to figure out how urgent it really is.

Thanks for any input!

Check the coolant level at the bottle every time you use the vehicle. The leak might get worse, and you might lose enough to overheat your engine before you know it and risk destroying it. Ideally, get the leak fixed ASAP, and avoid driving if at all possible until then.

I wasn't worried about the warranty but moreso the previous owner adding different coolant then stock...which may have happened.

The only fluid I can think of that would be green is coolant. If you keep seeing leaks, I would almost guarantee that is the issue. You should not let it go low as aluminum heads with high heat WARP.....not good.

someone was getting cheap with the prestone antifrz. Use BMW coolant, it's blue and add 1 cup of merc benz coolant, yellow, it has extra lubricants. just something I do with my BMW's. It was what a tech told me, so that's all I know. good luck, your under warranty.

Leaking engine antifreeze, need to find out hwere the leak is. Top up the anitfreeze 50/50 water mixture, so that it won't over heat. You may see white smoke when driving if the leak is bad and the coolant sprays on the block. Thats a pretty critical problem, get it to the dealer/mechanic ASAP.
