help w/ "service engine soon" light!!!
there is about two weeks that the x5 ,3.0 2001 the light come on """service engine soon"" light but it come then it was gone and it come again and it goes away,,,but today,, i was at the stoplight and with out to do anything the acceleration went up to 3000 rpms and down 2 times !!
,,the x5 runs ,,,but the light is still on,, i have one of does that i can check for the codes but this is ""service engine soon "" miles 120k,,check all the fluids and everything is okay,,no oil light,,, anyone have an advice?? thanks

Might want to start taking a look at your intake, intake tubing, MAF sensor, etc... I had a "Service Engine Soon" light...ended up costing nearly $1700 to repair the beast, but it runs like a champ. Should've seen some of the tubes I needed to replace!

why don't you check the o2 sensor, that was happened to me.and also chech the MAF sensor,intake tubing.good luck.

i know that the o2 sensor is on the exust pipe !,,but how do i check them? and where exactly is the maf sensor? is there a way to chack them my self? thanks |

You need to get the code first before do anything.

If you don't have a reader, go to Auto Zone. They will read the computer codes and tell you what is going on. They will not reset your light though. After needing to do the same for my wifes VW three years ago I just bought a reader. They come in many flavors.
You can't just change your points and condensor any more. For ALMOST any problem you will have the reader is just the place to start. |
