Question Alum Running Boards?

So my dealer is telling me that I can not keep the rear fender flares if I get the aluminum running boards for my 2005 4.8? He says that I will have to go back to the standard wheel well trims (like on the 3.0 or 4.4)

Anybody have thoughts, part numbers would be SUPER helpful if anybody can help me with this. Is this true? Is he just not looking at the right parts?

Many Thanks!!

there are definitely special parts for the 4.8 that do not require you to remove the fender flares.

As usual $tealers don't know.
You will need new flared wheel arches. Discard the standard arches which come with the running board kit. Those are for 3.0 and 4.4. You need these part #s below. See details in this thread . Also you can do it your self, don't need the dealer.

Flares, rear left 51 71 7 051 035
Flares, rear right 51 71 7 051 036
Flares, front left 51 71 7 051 037
Flares, front right 51 71 7 051 038

Its cheaper to buy the retro fit kit not the parts individually, as given above, plus you get all the fixings that you need.

The part number is 51710398336 for vehicles with running boards

So let me be sure, I get the normal kit, then add the part numbers you listed above?

Exactly! Not sure where you are but I got 25% off list price on running boards and flared arches. I got from PaulMiller in NJ and they have 25% coupon

Yes, stealers are often wrong on those add-ons because they just don't do too many of them. That's no excuse though

As I posted before the part number I gave has all you need, when I was first looking to buy the kit the dealer also said I needed two, as Le Mans said earlier but when they contacted BMW UK it was only one kit needed for the car as per the part numbers given in my first post and in Le mans above.
