Angry Rear end knock - bumper damage question.

Hi,

I hope someone is able to help me - it appears a rather dumb question but I might as well ask rather than make a mess of things.

Yesterday I had a little 'accident' in my x5. I was reversing with the side mirror dipped to see the road for parking - I completely forgot to see the rear view mirror and hit a parked car (as I reversed at fair speed, the sensors did not pick up the car quickly enough). Fortunetly, there is only a very faint scratch on my rear bumper. However, the plastic section in between the 2 exhausts in the rear bumper (I think it can be removed to install a tow bar - or hitch bar) fell off.

Can this easily be slipped into place or once removed do I need a completley new rear bumper?

Below is a pic showing the piece that has fallen off - used from another members car (hope he/she dont mind)- very similar to mine:

That piece is designed to be removeable. It covers the hole where the rear trailer hitch would be if installed. It snaps in place at the bottom and the top. Go ahead and pound it in with with the bottom of your fist. Both pieces are flexible plastic, so you won't damage anything.

That piece is removable. Worst case, just go buy another one from the dealer.
