Pretty horrible day. Hit and run on my X.

So, it was a great day yesterday, great weather, and I was looking forward to washing my car after I came back from school. Yeah, well, that didn't happen.

So my bus drops me off in front of our motel (we have a house and our garage in back) and my X is in the main parking lot, because my brother blocked the gate which lead to the garage the night before. He fell asleep pretty earlier that night, and I didn't have the heart to wake him up to move his car.

Back on topic, so I get off my bus, I'm walking up the hill to my house, and I notice the rear bumper of the X looks funny. So I run up, and the back bumper is pushed out, and dangling. I start to freak out, and I notice 2-3 dents with scratches (some of them may have hit primer) along side the tail light, which was also cracked. The bumper took most of the impact, causing a 3-4 inch hole, and a bunch of scrapes and scratches. Also, there was hydrolic fluid on the bumper and ground. I guess one hydrolic shot out (the side that got hit), while the other stayed normal, that's why one side was pushed out more than the other. I then start pulling my hair out, and yelling at my self, and then proceed to run inside. I go in and ask my mom what had happened, and of course, she didn't know anything. I take a look at our camera system, but none of our cameras are focused in on the lot, so they didn't help out. I then call my brother up, and asked him what time he left for work and if he noticed if the car was wrecked. He ended up leaving at 1ish, and said the car was fine. I then proceeded to call my dad, which I was afraid to talk to, and told him what had happened. He pretty much told me to call the police, and file a report. They ended up coming, and took my statements. I then went to Advance Auto Parts, and got the rear bumper off. It's pretty funny riding around town with no back bumper, I've been getting a lot of pointing and laughing, haha. I called my insurance company and they told me to go to this body shop in New Britian, CT, but I've heard their quality is pretty crappy. I'd rather go to this shop in my town, called Turnpike Motors, I've had work done their before, and it came out great.

I'm going to try and find a couple of the parts on my own, to save some cash, and use any remaining insurance money on a 4.6 kit and Aluminum Running Boards. I'm also going to get my passenger mirror case painted (someone stole it last year, and I never got the chance to re-paint the new one), and another dent on the passenger side fixed aswell (which also was a hit and run at our local CVS).

I hope karma gets the best of the guy or girl who hit me. People should take responsibility in their actions, and just fess up when you do something wrong. I just hope my car's not out of commision for more than 2 weeks.

Thanks for listening to me rant, have a good day everyone.

-Amar

Haha, one thing that really surprised me was how much the rear bumper weighs! That thing was heavy!

About 2 months ago my X5 was hit in the rear by a mercedes cl500,
it was in stop and go traffic. broke the left rear pdc sensor cover off, pushed sensor into hole, made about a 5 inch gash in the paint but no other damage. The mercedes on the other hand had it's hood caved in.
Since it was all covered by insurance had it fixed in a week , cost $567 to other guys insurance (basically replace sensor and housing repaint scratch).
X5's are like tanks, it's the reason I bought the second one.

That sux.
Make sure that whatever bodyshop you use is on the approved list for your/other drivers insurer - more recourse if you are not happy with the results.
One way to check for a list of reputable shop is to call your service advisor and ask him where they take dealership cars for bodywork.

Yep, I'll give the insurance company a call again today, and see which other shops they want me to go to.

So sorry to hear what happened to your X....

And guys/gals please remember that any fairly new vehicle when hitting it's front end to the rear end of another vehicle it'll surely sustain more front-end damage since it's designed to do so.... Crumple zones are there to absorb the impact...

That really sucks. Sorry to hear this. I think you are right - what comes around goes around. Most likely, the asswipe that did this already has a miserable life.

It's just plastic, metal, and paint so keep it all in perspective. Good luck with the repairs.
