AC/Heater blower running when car is off.

Greetings,
Two days ago, I went into the garage and heard a louder than normal fan sound coming from my wife's '03 3.0 . Determined that it is the interior blower. It wouldn't shut off, no matter what. It finally ran the battery down (we were late leaving for a dinner party, and I didn't want to get dirty disconnecting the battery.) After recharging the battery overnight, the fan didn't automatically come back on again, but I haven't actually tested it on the road since.

I am sure that it is the HVAC blower continuing to run, and not the cooling fan. Secondly, I have searched and seen the posts regarding the Final Stage Resistor issues.

The issues with the final stage resistor seem to relate to the fan not coming on or operating sporadically and at unusual speeds. Does my issue seem like one that would be caused by the resistor? If so, since our aftermarket extended warranty has a deductible of $100, do you think it would be simpler just for me to get the part and replace it myself? I seem to remember seeing that it runs in the neighborhood of $70. I am very comfortable tearing down just about any part of any car, as I have done most all my engine repairs/upgrades and electronics installs on all my past vehicles.

Thanks for the advice!

Gary

Thanks for the tip. Now I am feeling a little ignorant. I haven't heard about the auto cool down. What is that feature? You aren't speaking about the radiator fan staying on after shutdown are you?

Regards,

Gary

Check the manual for Auto Recirculation. Check to see if it is set.

I'll give it a look see. Thanks! I would still be interested to know if anyone has seen/heard of a similar issue being related to the resistor.

Regards,

Gary

My 2000 had the same issue. After riding around, and then coming home and turning it off, the A/C blower would keep running. Mine eventually would kind of half-stop, then start back, then stop. Eventually after a month or two it got bad enough to kill the battery. Turned out to be the final stage resistor. Get it fixed before it kills your battery again.
