Need to replace thermostat. Where is it?

the heating system does not blow out hot air. It takes 30 minutes to blow out hot air so I am figuring it has to be the thermostat. I added coolant today, it didnt solve the problem.

so im going to replace the thermostat, but I have no idea where it is located. I take it the part is like $5

If your temp gauge indicates your up to temp, it's not your thermostat. Here is a picture of where it sits.

More like $50+. I just checked for a 3.0L at bavauto.com! Make sure you check the water pump when youare in there. They can fail as low as 38K miles!

Why were you replacing fluid, was it low? If so, check under you passenger side floor mat for any 'puddles' as your heater core may have gone bye-bye.

That will probably do nothing for the problem, check the aux waterpump and heater valves, they are more likely the problem.

ok so I take it that it is not the thermostat because the temperature readings inside the car are fine.

aux waterpump & heater valves, are they covered under warranty? If not is this an easy DIY?

I added more fluid because I thought it might be a problem. I added a very very small amount. It wasn't that low at all.

Nothing is cheap on a BMW. If it is still under warranty it is a warranty item.
