Quick Gear Shift

hi fellow members, i have to admit this will be another newbie question. but then again, this is my first bmw so bear with me...

whenever i drive my X5, from a complete stop and I press on the gas pedal, the gear shift from 1st-3rd gear happens rather quickly which is within a few seconds until I hit 4th gear then its normal in my book.

my Lexus GX470 and my old explorers and eclipses' usually rev between 2500 to 3500 rpms before shifting each gear...so is there something wrong with my X5 transmission? i got it CPO and i've only had it for less than a month. I have a 2003 with 22,000+ miles on it.

unless, bmw is really a fine built ultimate driving machine that its normal shifting that way. i have to admit it does pull so much quicker than my Lexus GX470.

please advice

It's normal. In fact, the transmission may even start in 2nd gear from a dead stop. This is for fuel efficiency, or what BMW feels is fuel efficiency. If you want 1st gear starts and the transmission to hold on a bit longer, use sport mode or pound the gas harder so the adaptive logic will learn.
