Red face BROKEN DOOR HANDLE I NEED YOUR HELP!

Tabatha needs help! My car is parked at the moment and it's driving me crazy, Please Help!!!!!

My door handle was frozen back in the winter and I didn't know it until I lifted it up and it made a snap sound and stayed up. Well, I'm just now brave enough to try to fix the thing. When I used this site, I found out how to take the door panel off. Moved the air bag out of the way and ta da I found a silver spring in the bottom of the door. I think this is my problem, but, I can't figure out which notch the spring goes back into. I can't get any kind of photos on this repair. Has any one tried this repair or know where to go to see a detailed picture. The dealership said they don't have a way to print the repair program pictures. Go figure.....

Please help!

I have my door apart currently to fix the window. I will see if I can locate the spring, and post a picture for you.
Is it the driver or passenger door?

x5life, what does this number 155,000+ represent? dont tell me you have 155,000 miles on your 02 x5. that will really make me happy about my x even though it is now just about half of that.

It is the drivers side door. The spring or coil has two ends at about the angle of 12 o'clock and 2 o'clock. When you look at the handle assembly, it looks like it should go on the right bottom side. Someone told me to take the other door panel off and look at that one. I don't want to loosen the factory seals unless I absolutely have to.. Thanks for your reply

Yep, 155,000 is my mileage! The wheels are still warm even after sitting for this repair. I also have a passenger rear window that decided to just fall! But, we got that figured out. The regulator looked like a tangled fishing rod. The motor works fine but I need a new regulator.
