Performancewise, the e53 4.8is is a lot better. Braking, slalom, and the obvious 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

Please remember that the 2007 E70 4.8 is the replacement for the E53 4.4 , but not the 4.8is, despite is has an almost identical badge designation.

4.8i and 4.8is are different beasts. Search the forums. This has been beaten to death already.

2007 X5

Seeking the brawn to match the X5’s powerful good looks? The X5 4.8i’s 4.8-liter V-8 offers impressive performance, delivering a mighty 350 horses that propel it from 0-60 in 6.4 seconds. And thanks to Valvetronic, BMW’s fully variable valve control system, this high-powered V-8 breathes freely and performs with outstanding efficiency

I think all the owners of the existing 4.8 are biased.

The performance difference between the 1 st generation 4.4 and 4.8 was small. The 2007 is a 4.8 at about the same price as the old 4.4. Yes its no the ultra model, that the existing 4.8 but its performance has to be very close and given the fact that its a second generation with a improvements it has advantages over the existing 4.4 and 4.8.

Once again you are talking without research. Keep in mind E70 is heavier, wider and longer than E53. A bigger engine is to compensate for that. Read scott27's responses here and all responses in this thread and try to comprehend slowly.

Not sure the Scottie post had much to add, is he saying that he does not believe BMW.

You second link does not work.

I never saw a factual compassion, what are the stats?

Its not that I'm biased, its that I actually own one, so thats why I can make an honest judgement on the X5 performance. Don't think for one minute I won't get an E70 4.8is replacement though. Im just waiting for the day its announced.

So far, the 4.8i is not the replacement, so I'll keep driving and tooting my 4.8is.

We all love our X5 and the fact that a new generation is coming out makes us proud and at the same time a little sad since we no longer have the newest and the best.

The current 4.8 is an Ultra Sport Model that by its nature is a little more hard edged, but I still think the 2007 4.8 will be a really nice X5 and better than an existing X5 3.0 4.4 OR 4.8.

Optiion up a e70 and you'll be about where the 4.8is was price wise...new E70 is slower 0-60 compared to the article in Road and track and BMW's own data...6.4 v.s 6.1 for the 4.8is. And I think it beat everything they tested in the slalom course..including a Cayenne Turbo...with that said, I'm sure an optioned up E70 will be wonderful and technically is got some really interesting options, (active suspension, $$$ active steering $$) but I doubt it will be as direct and alive as the current 4.8is. I own a 05 4.8is and in some ways it's a little behind where my Touareg was from a technical viewpoint (essentially the same stuff on a Cayenne), but it's such an alive vehicle ...I hope I'm wrong and they manage to find how to keep that feel but have all the technology. Just my opinions.....
