X5 diesel: new exhaust system

Hello,

Who has changed his exhaustsystem to make his X5 diesel look like a 4.4i or 4.8is? Which brand would be the best choice knowing that I don't like too much extra noise?

To make a choice it is nice to know what the real size is of the tailpipes? a guess: 4.4i is 4x 84mm? en 4.8iS is 2x 160x80? Right or wrong? Please help ...

Hi Beco,
Its me again!I can understand why no one has replied to your question! It gets a bit tedious sometimes for the "older " members(myself included) to answer the same topic over and over again, especially since all a "new" member has to do is simply check the site because ALL the info is there. In fact you will find yourself reading for hours on just about any single topic you choose or mods you want to carry out. There are tons of stuff on 3.0D silencers and 3.0 with 4.8/4.6 bodykit.Even articles on how to do it.You cant ask for more than this!

I have done the 4.8 exhaust mod on my 3.0D.I choose the oem 4.8 rear silencers and basically all you need to do is cut your existing system and weld the 4.8īs on!Everything else is a perfect fit.Sound wise makes it sound more V8ish!
Have a look at this link and you see pics and all the info you need to know.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. Now I know where to start looking. I found another great and cheap solution, as it is to have the look of an 4.8is; just weld on mufflers to the existing diesel exhaust and let the smoke come from the under the car. I think it gives the least troubles especially on a new car considering loss of guarantee and all that.

I can understand those "old" members. But sometimes, as a new member, you don't know where to start. And by the way it's the first in my life a participate to a forum ...

Your solution made me laught . I canīt help thinking itīs a real original solution never mention before here, but it makes some sence .
Anyway itīs like having big front air intake that goes to nowhere, itīs kind of weird.

Yes.Hi Fiona.Hope all ok with you.
My life has had a complete turnaround!I have this workshop here in Portugal where we special in personalising customers cars. However, government legislation has out-lawed almost all aftermarket conversions and accessory installations.Apparently TUV not recognised in Portugal..so I am seriously thinking about going back to the UK for good...
Guys,sorry for hi-jacking the thread!.........................

Hi J.Seven,

Are you in Estoril in Portugal!Anyway,Becoīs idea if performed correctly makes a lot of sense. When he says "mufflers" ,he means "tips".Professionally just welding the 4.8is "look alike" tips onto the front of the 3.0D oem mufflers makes a lot of sense. You will still have exhaust fumes coming out of the back but pointing downwards which unlike, someone like myself, that has the oem 4.8is mufflers/tips installed, and I get exhaust fumes in my face everytime I reverse!

Yes I am in Estoril/Portugal.
What kind of work do you perform on your client cars? Any brand in special or only BMW.

Hi.We do general mechanical, exhaust, electrics and bodywork and supply and fitment of car accessories on ALL makes but we specialize in BMW ,Audi/VW.
We started over 10 years ago, with the TUNING euphoria here in Sintra-Portugal but in the last couple of years we have moved away from this(mainly because the authorities here have declared war on the tuning community and made almost all aftermarket accessories illegal).
So,we concentrated on general mechanic and Diagnostic work but we still do "serious" Personalisation on clients cars. This week we are doing a one-off exhaust mod on a 2006 Merc Clk 220cdi where we are fitting twin mufflers with single large Oval tips on either side. Also doing a twin intercooler kit on Nissan Patrol 2.8 Gr and we have an Escort RS cosworth that Ford here couldnt find the reason why the car was in LIMP Mode and we have!So we carry out quite a lot of varied work but because of the pathetic local laws,we will be relocating to the Uk in the near future.
