Disconnecting battery?

Hello,

I'm going to be out of country for 50 days,
last time when I was away, I forgot to disconnect my battery and had completely dead battery when I got back.
so I'm going to disconnect the battery this time, but also wondering what else should I do?
will my battery be fine after 50 days?

Thank you!

Other than disconnecting the battery (or hooking it up to a battery tender), there's really nothing else you need to do.

Enjoy the trip!

I use an optimate to keep the battery in tiptop condition. I would think that if it is disconnected the shelf life would be a long time and you would not get a complete discharge anyway. Just give it a boost when you get back.

Why don't you just buy a drip charger and connect it to your battery. That way you won't have to disconnect your battery and it won't lose its charge. That's what I do.

Buy a battery charger/maintainer and leave it hooked up while you are gone. Your battery will be fully charged when you return. You can buy the chargers for as little as $20. Well worth it IMO.

Just get one of these:

hook it up and you're done.

I've been gone for 5 weeks without any issues starting the car.

If your car is in your garage, perhaps don't enable the alarm? I'm thinking that with the motion detector and led and other alarm related functions turned off that your car will consume a tiny less power per day.
