Can I simply swap my non-dimming rearview mirror for a dimming one? Plug -n- Play??

Lately, I've been driving home more at night and the lights from the vehicles behind me have begun to get very annoying especially since my former Expedition had the autodimming rearview mirror. So I was just wondering if I could simply swap my current mirror for a autodimming one, a simple plug and play. I've searched and found how to install it, but I never really got a clear answer on whether or not a dimming one could be installed, plug and play style, in place of a non-dimming one. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

Yes I did it when I bought the current X5, in fact it was switched with a compass mirror, it took like 10 mins!

yup a simple 10 minute upgrade ... less than 5 minutes if you're good, more than 30 minutes (and a headache) if you can't get the mirror back into the windshield I've done 4, and sometimes it's hard to get the back of the mirror correctly lined up with the thread so you can twist it back in.
