Change the battery on my old key.
If any know me now just to let you all know, things are starting to look up. But one thing has just stopped working. My key dose not open the car door remotely, it did work one week ago, but I put it with the mechanic and when I got it back it was not working. I have another key and that is working ok. But I do not know how to change the battery on my old key. Any one knows any thing. |

The battery is rechargable and it recharges when it is in the ignition. That is one of the main reasons why it is strongly recommended that you periodically use all keys.

Cos my dead one was even dead after 3 howers non stop driving. do you think this will work? Reprogramming Key Fob To do this procedure you need to have one working key and one key that needs to be programmed. Last edited by just-in; 11-25-2006 at 01:24 PM. |

I've having same problem for the last 9 days and knowing someone will say "we cover this already" I searched every post on remote key, tried, and miserably failed. In my case I have both of my keys not working.
To charge my key battery I made unnecessary a 60 mile trip, and leave the key in position 3 in my garage for 4 hours and nothing worked. My conclusion the battery is dead beyond repair. Can someone give me a real solution? I am taking this car in to a dealer Monday. If they cannot fix it, I might walk out with Lexus, or MB. It pains my to reach the button in near the tranny shifter to get the doors for the passengers, bad example on usability.

I took the car to the dealer on Monday. The service rep tried to reset the key as the description above and failed, haha. He also checked the fuses and they checked out okay. The rep says there's no battery in the key unlike what was discussed above, only a microcessor, and I asked "then a capacitor?", he said "Yes."
Jason Giambi, yes relationship with the slugger that's his cusin GREAT MAN, with Valencia BMW took the car for the half day. He called me to inform me the both keys were fixed. I asked how, he says they reprogrammed the keys using the dealer computer. I also asked, "what would be the logical explanation for what happened." He says, "dunno." I wish I had diagrams to show you hwo this works. But there's no battery to die. Take your key to your dealer, I hope you are still in warranty. EOF.

Logic check guys...OF COURSE there's a battery inside the key
. Any radio transmitter needs a power source, even the weak 315mhz transmitters inside a BMW key fob (not that you'd want to destroy your $150.00 key just to get to it mind you, but yes - there IS a little battery inside in case you were wondering). A capacitor is not a subsitute for a constant power source, and would simply not have the reserve capacity to repeatedly transmit without being recharged after each use. Try locking/unlocking your doors a dozen or so times and you'll see what I'm talking about...

Mobil express fob, I don't know the exact name, some smart cards. They don't need batteries... If anyone know the details let me know. I am curious to know.
