Can you use run-flats on a 4.8is?

Does run flats require special wheels/rims?

If you can use run flats on the stock 20" rim, what are my options for tires?

Just curious. I would love to drop the off size spare tire out of the rear of the vehicle and regain that 30-40 lbs or however much it weighs.

Don't know the answer to your question, but I don't think you'll notice the weight savings at all. If you do go with runflats, I also think you'll find them to be much more expensive than regular tires. Just my $.02, but let us know what you find out and decide to do!

You can just remove the spare and carry the repair kit. BTW, did you post pics of your 4.8is?... maybe I missed.

the weight you lose in the spare tire you will regain in unsprung weight at each wheel run flat tires weigh a LOT (at minimum a 25%increase in tire weight) compared with thier non runflat counterparts also on the wholesale level average about $100 more per tire than non run flat tires which means anywhere from 150 - 300 at retail

No to answer your question yes they will work fine on your factory rims you may notice an increase in ride harshness because of the extremely rigid sidewalls on runflat tires. also you will need to be very careful if your car does not come with tire pressure montering systems on board you will not know if your tire is flat or not.

Personally I purchased an emergency repair kit from a new MB SL55 comes with a can of fix a flat and a 12 volt compressor cost me a bit over $100 on ebay
