My buddy used to have a 2001 X5 (prod 10/00) and his button stated "REST".

Awesome post. I had no idea that button would do that. Please post any and all of the BMW hidden secrets.

Works as advertised...I was washing the X up tonight in the cold and decided to give this little trick a try. You can actually hear the fan running and see the windows fogging a little....Hell of a find!!!......Phil

My 01/00 has the REST button and I've used it several times in cold weather.

Summer is now distant, but when the hot weather returns, don't forget the timed auxiliary ventilation to pre-cool the X, great when its sitting in the sun.

01/00? Jan 2000? Is that a 4.4?

No, look at my post again, it said production date 10 (Oct), 2000!

It was a 3.0i.

The earliest 4.4i I ever saw was when BMW was doing "performance driving school" at the Tustin MCAS base and it was a pre-production X5 4.4i in April 1999! It was Sahara Beige and I took pictures of it with my "old school" camera.

I was thinking at that time (after driving M-cars and brand new E46 328i sedan) why is BMW doing a SUV??!!

The first BMW X5 4.4i I saw on the road was July 1999 (Titanium Silver)!!

Also, there was a special Neiman-Marcus edition X5 4.4i with special paint color (can't remember what it was) on sale for Dec 1999!!
