Wood Pecker sound?????

I noticed last night that while driving at ranodm times ill get a sound that sounds like a wood pecker pecking at a tree. if u speed up, u hear the sounds faster. could this be a spark plug? usally a bad plug will miss and make a weird shudder, but a series of wood pecker like sounds right after eachother at random?(im not entirely sure if its at random) help PLEASE! i have a 2001 bmw x5 3.0i with self leveling, 18's(95k miles)

Notice it more when cool or hot? How is the oil pressure? Could it be the oil pump? What about connecting rods?

it never gets....hot, i think its whenever the engine is on tho, the Check control unit says nothing the engine light isnt on, nothing. how do i check if the oil pump work or if the connection rods are good?

where is the sound coming from? does it by any chance sound like crickets in the instrument cluster area?
