Engine Trouble

I own a 2001 BMW X5 3.0I recently it started having some serious engine knock. I took it in to check it out, i need a new engine or an overhaul. what are my options it only has 95,000 miles and the extended warranty ended in september. Is there any way to make bmw liable for this? I simply cannot afford 5-9,000 dollars for a reapir like this. any suggestions are appreciated

What was the diagnosis? The 3.0 is a very durable engine and is known to go 250k without any bottom end trouble.

Get a second opinion. That's no small chunk of change.

Ouch, I agree - you should get a second opinion before making and decisions.

Im very good at changing my oil every 10-11k miles always b4 the car's light goes on for oil! apprently u need to change every 7500 miles and bmw is wrogn when they say 15k miles, the mechanic thinks the main bearing in the engine went. thats a 7-11k fix thats not a small chunk of change at all the car is worth 18 grand! I'll get a second opinion. Is there anyway to find BMW liable for this?

Doubt it. You're not talking 2 days after the warranty expired, and you're not talking about a window regulator but rather an expensive part and the heart of the vehicle. I think BMW will

It's very important to use BMW LL01 or LL04 oil if you are looking to go 10-15k between changes. That LL98 that the dealers sell is 7.5K rated ONLY. Still a main bearing failure is rare.
