Just purchased a garmin nuvi 660, no pictures yet. It is mounted to the left of the instrument panel using the windshield suction cup mount. I like the position as it is easy to view without having to take your eyes off the road. I also hard wired the 12v power supply so it looks "cleaner". I looked at several name brand navigation units and settled on the 660 because of it's size, it also snaps in and out of the mounting bracket so I can remove to keep it from being stolen.

If you don't want to go the gooseneck route (suction cup on windshield), here are some other options and some pics for mounting GPS in X5. Click on Vehicle Mounts on the following link and see options and pics for X5. I don't have one but it seems less intrusive than other mounting options.

How do you like the 660 so far? Just read up about it yesterday and it seems to be jam packed with extra stuff!

I had a few test units mounted in my X the other day
Blaupunkt Travelpilot
Delphi NAV-200
Lowrance IWAY250C and 500C
and some ghetto ass audiovox prototype peice

tested the different mountings I really liked the vent mount on the Blaupunkt unit plus it had the most features included with it (inputs for VSS, Dimmer, external ant, power, audio tap for stereo, plus has a ped mode with a 6hr battery)

Delphi has one of the stiffest windshield mounts I have found but the voice delay was huge...there were times I missed turns because it announced the turn after I had passed it.

Lowrance is pretty standard good response nice feel nothing special but overall nice pieces plus the middle one (350C) is in a water resistant case and comes with motorcycle mounting brackets

I actually had it done at Car Toys in Portland, Or. They set it up so the navigation fires up when you start the car and shut off when the ignition is turned off.

The 660 is on the spendy side, but the price has come down. It does have a lot of features and I'm still learning how to use all of them. This is the first navigation I have used so I do not have any thing to compare it to. For me it was screen size and bluetooth. I also like the display, it is nice and bright during the day and changes to a black background at night.
