Mine was making noises at start and also when the tranny used to shift gears (yes, it is auto but you can tell when it shift gears). And then later it started slipping as well in the second gear.
Few people also had problems shifting into reverse gear which i didn't but it's hard to tell sometimes the symptoms. I was always thinking initially that the noises coming after starting the engine to be from the belts and i was wrong.

I would back out of a parking stall, shift to first, push the gas like normal and the X would only kick in at about 1500rpm. Lunging me forward.
Other symptoms were rattling and grinding noises from below and a trans failsafe display were pretty obvious.
Sorry my bill was 5200.
