Talking Routing Aux input cable to cupholders

Hey guys,

I am planning to install the Aux input cable for the audio system and would ideally like to route it to either the cupholder or the flip up center console. Any tips on the best way to accomplish this without screwing things up?

Thanks.

I bought myself a male to female cord and mounted it into the ashtray. Here's a picture of what i did. If you would like to do it this way i'd be glad to help you out.

Thanks for the pic. I am actually looking to route the wire under the center thing that contains the ashtray and gear shifter, and have it come out inside the center flip up console (drilling a hole for it to come out). If it's too difficult I will go with your approach. But I was wondering if there is an easy way to do what I originally envisioned. Thanks, looks like a very clean install.

I tried having it routed to the center console, but something gets in the way between the shifter and the console, so I ended up having it in the ashtray like Norv. Not as clean as Norv's setup; mine is through the hole where the ashtray light comes through. One thing I've noticed is that the sound quality isn't very good through the aux input as compared to the changer, which I think is because you have to use a male-male input cord in between the input and your source.

A cool thing with the aux input is that you can adjust the volume using the 1-6 buttons you use when changing radio stations. That way you don't have to constantly adjust your volume when going from source to source.

Thanks LA. I guess it's Plan B then, mounting it in the ashtray. How do you get the cord down there? After you hook one end up to the radio, do you just dangle it down behind the AC controls, remove the ashtray and grab the end of it and pull it out?

i don't remember exactly how it was done, but basically that was it...i think there is a part you remove from behind the ashtray and you pull it through...if you do a search, i believe there are a couple of people here who have routed the aux input to the center console.

If your cable is in good condition, it's unlikely that it is degrading the signal to the point that you can hear the difference in a noisy environment (like a car). Make sure that you are using a line level out on your mp3 player or whatever the signal source is. Try not to use the headphone output because it can be turned up to the point of clipping, which is maybe what you're hearing?
