headlight condensation!

First time driving in a rainny day for about 25 minutes driving, I find headlight condensation in both headlight, rush back to dealer and they say it is normal if the condensation disappear within 30 minutes after the car stopped, wondering if that is true? 2006 X5

Hi,

Have the same problem. The car is going to the dealer for warranty work and we are asking them to look at the lights as well. I have read somewhere that the light units are sealed, so should not have any sign of condensation. I'm sure some one will come along and give us the right information, as they say, 'fore warned is fore armed'.

I had the same thing happen to me, the dealer service guy told me they are sealed and cannot be opened for cleaning, so they just changed the headlight under warranty.

I've heard of this happening a few times on X5's but haven't had a first hand issue with it. If you're really upset with it see if you can have the headlamps replaced.

I wouldn't worry about it if the condensation is of the "fog" type, which will dissapear after a few minutes. I have it on mine as well if the humidity in the air is high...like when it's raining. It's true that the headlights are sealed, but there are vent holes in them, which is why you see minor "fogging". On the other hand, if the condensation is of the water droplet size or if it doesn't clear up after a few minutes, then you should hit up the dealer for a replacement.

If there are vent holes in headlight why only some of X5 have this condensation problem?
In Taiwan, we only have sole agent of BMW
and the service person tell me that they have a TSB (which I don't see) from BMW Germany
which says "condensation is normal" and refuse to replace it.
This is very upset from what I learned on the X5world forum.
Since it is a brand new car and I have just owned it for 16 days
really I don't know what to do.
Is there someone who can offer me about the TSB USA, so I can show
them a different view of this problem.
thanks again!

Definitely a warranty issue if the assemblies are properly sealed there should be NO fogging problems.

I have a potentially different "fogging" problem...
I have not seen any droplets form on the inside of the plastic lens, but I have a definite area directly infront of the Xenon beam where the plastic is no longer clear. It appears there is some type of film that has collected in front of the beam. It's almost in the shape of a donut.
Any one else out there with this issue?

I've outlined the area in the below photo...
