Extended Warranty

Hello every,

I'm ILDIVA01 from Illinois and I am new to this forum. I found this forum after weeks of posting on a UK based cite.

Anyways, I really need help. I am in search of an extended warranty plan to cover my 2001 X5. I was told by the dealership that my car was 1,000 over the limit for them to sell me one. I've looked up various other warranty companies but I am kind hesitant about some of these companies.

I was wondering had anyone had any experience with such companies or possible recommendations.

Thanks

ILDIVA,
Welcome to TheBoard...
I'm surprised your local Stlr would not "work with you" on selling
you their BMW ext warranty: it is CPOish in coverage and, pricey
but is some peace of mind. The pricey part is why I'm surprised
they did not work around to sell/offer it.

You might try another dlr in your area, too.

Also, some dlrs sell "3rd party" warranties in addition to the
official BMW ext warr.; you may find a dlr in area that has
one of those products.

On this board, a couple of us have Ext Warr. from WarrantyDirect:
http://www.warrantydirect.com/index.asp

SuperGreg, a freq poster and Moderator has "used" their coverage
and had pos. results and comments; I have not had to use my
coverage, yet.

From memory, WD and most warranty companies are loathe to take
on a car with an expired oem warr., much as you discovered from
your initial attempt...I'd keep at the different potential "coverers"
and see if you can shake one loose.

Keep in mind, that an Ext Warranty is different coverage than BMW's
other product: Ext Maintenance...it gets confused often, espc. by
the BMW guys trying to sell you something.

Confusing issue, I realize...and, many here would opine that one doesn't
need to pay out big dough for an ext warr. which is simply an insurance
policy.

Search Extended Warranty on this site, for more confusing views, lol!

MD,

You need to write up a STICKY on after-market warranties
- or -
A sticky to the search engine

BigR...
I may do an "Extended Warranty/Extended Maint" write-up,
for Sticky consideration...it sure comes around on the Jukebox
with regularity. And, the lack of "standards" in terms of
how Stlrs respond, what they sell, what's on mkt., etc.,
will make one's teeth hurt in the discovery process.

And, it is fookin confusing; no Xpert here, but there are some
basic points that need to be listed...sort of a FAQ.

The Search deal pulls up so many unrelated threads/posts that
it's daunting for me, let alone a newbie.

Maybe some rainy day here in FL this season.
