Angry Open rear hatch and drip, drip, drip!

Man I am getting tired of wiping up the water from the rear door that falls on the tailgate and my head every time I get the groceries out, or the luggage, etc. Tonite I removed the 4 torx screws holding the liftgate handle on. Seems like the foam gasket behind it is all saturated with water and does not appear too sturdy. One of the lights on the edge there was completely corroded from water entering the housing. What I can't figure out is how the water got in there to start with. It must drip down somehow from the rear window fitting into the rear hatch......

Anyone else have this issue?

Welllllll.............we must solve this problem! Not that my wife lets me drive the X5, BUT, unloading groceries is my job so it's my head getting dripped on. Cold water on a shaved head sucks. I am going to pull everything apart again over the holidays and see what's up. My mechanic and I may get after this. We'll see.

Well after removing the rear liftgate handle and wiping it all down, then re-installing it TIGHT, there is no more leaking on my head. Today it's rainy here so I'll take a quick trip out to get coffee and last minute xmas stuff. We'll see if I licked it or not.....stay tuned.

What pics do you want?
