Cool Stereo mute w/ Parrot BT kit in 4.4i

Ok, just had the installer round to fit a tracker to the X and at the same time to remove the previous owners Nokia kit and stick in Parrot Bluetooth one.

We opened up the boot of the X and removed the tray + spare tyre to access the tuner/amp location for the system. However, installer was unable to find a functioning pin on the connectors that would activate the Mute for the stereo. Could only find a mute for the amp (not helpful) instead.

He put it down to a possibly faulty amp and I agreed to continue installing the system up front, behind the nav unit, making use of a dedicated speaker. The quality of the setup is good but it would be nice to make use of the car's speaker system and not have to Mute manually each time.

Does anyone have similar experience with an X5 or BMWs in general?

On a similar note, he was going to attempt to make use of the steering wheel controls but I'm not sure if he was unsuccessful or didn't attempt it in the end.

- Thanks Will

It might be worth contacting these guys at parrotkits.com They seem to have X5 specific harnesses and claim ability to control through steering wheels. Looks interesting ...if indeed it does work and you do not loose other functions.
I have not installed this so do your research first. Other less electronically challenged (than me) members may be able to shed some light on this option..

I installed the Parrot in my X and added the steering wheel controls... see my feedback post (http://www.xoutpost.com/bluetooth/213...th-module.html) and installation guide here:
