Smile Rear camera (bumblebee) wiring solved

Hi everyone,

just wanted to share my solution for the rear camera which I installed on my X today. I had the bumblebee camera from EAS and used the connection diagram with the relay mentioned on this forum. I had picture when in reverse (with the engine off) but with vertical lines moving upwards. When I started the engine the lines multiplied and in about 3 seconds thescreen went black . Back to the installer today who simply added a second (same type relay) and everything is perfect. I don't know exactly what he changed ( I can find out if anyone interested ) but something to do with the bridge connection of the camera and the rear light.( pulse current from real light causing all the interference ).
Hope it helps someone !

well I just spoke to the guy on the phone and altough he explained it I'm not an electronic expert so I will go again later today to get a diagram from him. That would be more helpful for everyone. But from what he said as mentioned on the diagram on the forum he used the line from the rear lights but as it was "pulse current" (that's what generated all the interference) he made the connection to the relay and then to pin 17 on the video module according to the original diagram ,but from the connection to the relay he also gave to a second relay and then to the camera's positive. That eliminated the interference.
Well I will try to get a diagram from him, maybe the above makes sense to someone that has technical knowledge. It's very simple as the whole process took about 5 minutes.

Sounds Greek to me. But I am glad for you that you got it working.

Here's some good posts: http://www.xoutpost.com/38007-post4.html

This diagram simplifies things a bit:

If I get mine wired without frying my car then I will post a parts list, wiring diagram (with from ->to list for vsm,relay,x5) and pics. Part of the problem is there is no complete description for wiring a vsm->relay->X5. many of the post are for an existing "TV" module. With the help of some members here I think I have the correct wiring instructions. Also was wondering what size wire you would recommend (12,14,16 guage)?
There isn't a difference as far as the camera is concerned. We are still inputting a camera feed into a video module using the reverse light as a trigger source.

The link in my previous post works perfectly, and was just used on a TV module a couple of weeks ago for verification.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
