Question Question on installing my 4.6 front spoiler

I just got my 4.6 front spoiler from Morristown BMW. I noticed that there are quite afew tabs that are suppose to slide into slots on the front of the front bumper. I have a 4.4 front bumper with no slots. Do you guys think it would be alright to cut some, no all, of them off. It seems like it would be HELL to get everything aligned. One cut to high and it will be seen for sure. Also what is the best glue to use to hold it securely?

I just installed mine but I cheated. It's not on all the way correctly on but since I had already had holes from the Bull Bar that was installed I put them back on and cut the holes out of the front spoiler to install them. I used the pressure from the bull car and the tabs that clipped into the grill area to hold the front spoiler on. It's not perfect but its close and I used no adhesive.

The other way is on the forum here in the help section. You can cut the tabs and use marine or automotive adhesive and let it cure for 24hrs.

I didn't like that option since it was messy and you can hardly tell looking at it. Small gap at the bottom towards the edges where it fits on the bottom corners.

I thought about cutting the holes but what a job. You would have to remove the bumper top make sure you are spot on. I had to remove the front bumper anyways to remove the bull bars.

Good luck. I will post pictures this weekend if we get sunshine

I cut them off, kept the ones that clip into the grill at the bottom and used Gorilla Glue. I put duct tape on it ticht to hold it in place for 2 days until I knew the glue was dry. Looks 100% perfect!

Thanks Guys I just saw that on that the home page. I guess I will just cut most of the tabs and use the Gorrilla Glue. Did the duct tape leave any residue?

Krunk Man, It cost me $230 shipped to CT but that also included the exhaust trim rings that clip into the bumper. Helluva deal if you ask me, which you did, LOL!!

Did you check out the article on the front page? The author cut off the tabs.

http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/b...3-0i-4-4i.html

He used windshield adhesive which I don't quite understand. He probably wanted a flexible urethane type of adhesive since the added body parts vibrate, potentially cracking the joints. However, there are better adhesives designed specifically to join polyurethane and fiberglass parts to metal. Check out the 3M line of panel bonding adhesives.

Not worth the money. Even though it only 10 bucks or so. It's only 1/2" wide. You might notice it more on my X5 because I have all the black parts painted silver. But on a stock black trim bumper you won't notice at all.
