extended warranty ???? NEW OWNER

Am a new owner of a 2002 BMW X5 3.0 WITH 60000 MILES. The dealer is trying to offer me a extended warranty for around $3000. i don't know if i should get it , shop around or just don't worry about warranty? i don't see the need of puting warranty on used cars. Input please.

Don't see a need for a warranty on a used car, have you ever had a BMW before?

Not trying to be a smart @ss but BMW parts and just maintenance is EXPENSIVE. If you're unlucky enough to have a transmission go out or something, there goes a few thousand right there. If it is the CPO warranty you're being offered, do it.

I paid around 2.5K for my extended warranty. I did it for piece of mind. I don't have to cringe when I go to the stealership.

I also got it with my last BMW for the piece of mind. It paid for itself in about the first month!

Agree with all the above. For what it's worth, I would not own a BMW unless it is under warranty coverage. I don't have a good independant mechanic so I would be grabbing my ankles at the stealership everytime something came up outside of warranty.
This has served me well and saved me money in the past

Just curious is your dealer a BMW dealer. If so, why was the car not CPO'd when you bought it? I didn't think that they could add that later. If you are buying an after market warranty make sure that BMW accepts/recognises it.
Warranty Direct gets seems to get pos mention on this forum.

Lots and lots and lots of info on this in this forum --did you try search function?

I have the extended warranty and extended maintenance on mine. I think it's worth it.

DougB,
Is your stlr offering an extended Warranty or, extended Maintenance?

Very different offerings. If it's a warranty, is it BMW's 2OP plan or
a private deal via the dealer?

There are very few warranty programs of any kind, that are writeable
after the current oem warranty has expired...ask questions and, for
a better opin from this gang, we need better info.

if you bought it from them, all they have to do to certify it CPO is go through the checklist of equipments on your car. but since you bought it for a certain price without the CPO warranty, it may be handled differently. you can still add the extented maintenance...which is really worth the extra price

Get the Extended Maintenance and Warranty. It is without a doubt worth the money.
