Anyone have a MkIV DVD drive that doesn't read DVD+R media?

I've been trying to get a backup DVD+R disc to run on my Mk IV DVD drive for a couple months now and think maybe my Mk IV just doesn't accept them. Some other forum members who I've talked to have had no problems on their Mk IVs. I just keep getting the "CD/DVD" error saying it isn't a compatible disc. Anyone else experience this?

I have a 2004 X5 4.4i with Factory NAV. Thanks.

usually it does read ..
if it's not your writing as a process on the DVD blank was bad , or DVD blank was bad..
Well lately my MK-4 stoped to read DVD's ( even original DVD OEM disk) ..so as today it does read only CD's and cd-r , but as CD format only ..I do not have any dissent explanetion why..but think there was a dead battery story in the past and after that it's beahaving this way..

Mine does read burned BMW OS disks. But i understand that trying to burn the Navi discs is a real chore because Navteq does their best to make it so.

The one that i had on my 330 convertible 2004 did not read DVD+R only DVD-R. Now i have X 2006 and it is the same thing only DVD-R and not all the brands, Verbatim and Fuji works (Fuji does not work as CD-R for OS)

My 4.4 X5's build date is 6/04, not sure what the Mark IV drive's manuf date, but I've only tried about 2-3 brands: Verbatim, Memorex, and one K-Hypermedia. All seem to fail. I'm not super worried about it, it's more of a nice-to-have to run updated map discs.

It did read a CD-R burned disc of the BMW OS when I updated it last fall, so the drive is able to read burned media.

try recording at 1x DAO... my 12/04 MKIV reads DVD+-R just fine. RW's arent recommended as their data tracks are more shallow and harder to read.
